A structural beam sized per plan bears directly atop a hollow structural section column. The beam web is reinforced with a quarter-inch stiffener plate welded on three sides with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. A three-eighths-inch by six-inch by six-inch plate connects to each side of the assembly. Two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts secure the vertical laminated strand lumber installed within the hollow structural section, set at a three-inch gauge spacing.
