An HSS6x6x1/4 structural steel column connects to a wide flange beam positioned per plan beneath a roof deck. A bent plate measuring 1/4 inch by 3 inches is welded to each side of the HSS column with a three-sixteenths inch fillet weld on three sides typically. A three-quarter inch diameter through-bolt passes through a vertical long slotted hole in the connection. The nut is left finger tight and the threads are spoiled to ensure a sliding vertical connection.
