The construction joint between a first and second concrete pour must be located within the middle third of the beam span. All main reinforcing bars continue uninterrupted across the joint interface. Additional transverse ties are required typically near the joint, spaced at three-inch increments for a distance of one foot. Reinforcement sizing varies by member width, ranging from one number six bar each way for members up to seven inches wide to six number six bars each way for members wider than forty inches. The beam depth is divided into thirds for tie placement, and a keyed joint profile with a one-and-a-half-inch offset is formed at the interface.
