An HSS beam connects to an HSS column using top and bottom L5x4x3/8 angle seats welded to the column with 5/16-inch fillet welds. The beam web is secured to each angle using three 7/8-inch diameter A325 bolts. Vertical 1/2-inch stiffener plates are welded to the column web inside or adjacent to the angles with 1/4-inch fillet welds in four typical locations. A 5-inch diameter bolt access hole is provided in the beam web to facilitate tightening. A 1-inch maximum clearance is maintained between the beam end and the HSS post face.
