A construction joint in a concrete mat slab or footing incorporates a formed key located at the mid-depth and mid-width of the member. Continuous top and bottom reinforcing steel continues across the joint, sized and spaced per plan with specified lap splice lengths. Transverse reinforcing is omitted for clarity. A one-and-a-half-inch minimum gap is provided at the top surface, and the total mat depth is designed per foundation notes.
