A gusset plate of specified thickness is welded between the face of the column flange and the face of the beam flange at a hollow structural section brace intersection. The brace member connects to the gusset plate with fillet welds sized per the accompanying gusset plate schedule based on the brace size. One-half-inch stiffener plates are welded to the web of the beam and column with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides typical. A note restricts application strictly to braces which do not form part of the lateral force resisting system.
