A steel beam connects to a column using a three-quarter-inch by nine-inch plate welded to the column face with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. The plate is embedded with eight half-inch diameter by eight-inch long headed shear studs spaced at six inches on center and centered on the column face. Additional number five reinforcing bars are placed at four inches on center between the outer rows of studs. A half-inch thick plate with horizontal slotted holes is welded to the beam web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Two columns of four one-inch diameter Grade A490 slip-critical bolts connect the beam web to the plate assembly. Standard holes are provided in the beam web, and all steel plates have a minimum yield strength of fifty ksi.
