A cross-laminated timber deck bears on a 4x pressure-treated sill plate anchored to a concrete retaining wall with recessed five-eighths-inch diameter by six-inch embedment anchor bolts at forty-eight inches on center. A compressible joint filler creates a two-inch gap separating the timber assembly from the adjacent concrete slab on grade. The cross-laminated timber deck remains unfastened to the sill plate. A concrete dowel ties the slab on grade to the retaining wall per reference detail 4/S50.
