A hollow structural section beam frames into a wide flange girder sized per plan. A quarter-inch end plate is welded to the end of the hollow structural section with a three-eighths-inch fillet weld typical around the perimeter. Quarter-inch web stiffeners are attached to each side of the girder web opposite the connection. A quarter-inch fillet weld extends three inches at the top and bottom of the stiffeners.
