A five-sixteenths-inch cap plate sits atop a hollow structural section column, aligned with the centerline of the beam and column. The continuous hollow structural section column extends upward with typical one-half-inch clearances. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld and a three-eighths-inch fillet weld secure the assembly.
