A structural steel beam frames into a column with complete joint penetration groove welds at the top and bottom flanges. A cap plate with a thickness equal to the beam flange thickness plus one-half inch sits atop the frame column, connected via partial joint penetration and five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Continuous plates are welded on both sides inside the column. A beam web connects to the column flange using an erection plate secured with bolts and five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds.
