A concrete construction joint is located within the middle third of the beam or girder span between a first pour and a second pour. All longitudinal reinforcing steel continues uninterrupted across the joint. Additional ties are required typically spaced at three-inch increments near the joint. Continuous reinforcing bars are specified for various member widths: one number six bar each way for members up to seven inches wide, two number six bars each way for members eight to twenty inches wide, four number six bars each way for members twenty to forty inches wide, and six number six bars each way for members wider than forty inches.
