An elevator spreader beam constructed from a hollow structural section connects to a wide-flange steel member or a concrete wall. The steel connection utilizes a three-eighths-inch plate welded with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld, shimmed as required, and secured with four seven-eighths-inch diameter ASTM A325 bolts tightened snug. The concrete connection secures to a concrete wall using a three-eighths-inch plate welded with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld and four half-inch diameter anchors with a two-and-a-quarter-inch embedment and six-inch minimum edge distance.
