A wood nailer measuring 6x by beam flange width is secured to the top flange of a structural steel beam using seven-eighths-inch diameter welded threaded rods spaced at sixteen inches on center staggered. The rods are countersunk a maximum of three-quarters of an inch into the nailer. One rod is placed a maximum of nine inches from each end of the nailer and from each splice. Two rows are specified at nail spacing, with four lines where the nail spacing is staggered and six lines where three lines of nailing are required. A two-and-a-half-inch minimum typical clearance is maintained.
