Round stirrups and ties require specific bend diameters and extension lengths based on the reinforcing bar size. For bar sizes number three through number five, the minimum bend diameter is four times the nominal bar diameter with a six times the nominal bar diameter extension hook. For bar sizes number six through number eight, the minimum bend diameter is six times the nominal bar diameter with a twelve times the nominal bar diameter extension hook. Round column ties engage the vertical reinforcement with a six inch minimum overlap as shown in the cross-section.
