An HSS beam connects to an HSS column using L5x5x3/8 structural angles welded to the top and bottom flanges, with the angle width matched to the beam. A maximum gap of one-half inch is maintained between the end of the HSS beam and the face of the HSS column. The connection is secured with one-quarter inch typical fillet welds attaching the angles to both the beam and the column.
