A carried steel beam connects to the web of a supporting girder via a single-side shear tab bolted to the beam web. A three-eighths-inch thick full-depth stiffener plate is welded to the web of the supporting girder opposite the connection. The shear plate thickness, bolt diameter, and number of bolts are sized per schedule. The shear plate is full depth when the carried beam is twelve inches or deeper, maintaining a three-quarter inch clearance from the face of the beam web to the support centerline.
