An HSS 6x6x1/4 structural steel column extends down through a finish slab into a 24-inch square or circular concrete footing, with the bottom portion anchored by four 1/2-inch diameter by 4-inch long welded studs welded to the tube. A closure plate is welded to the top of the HSS 6x6x1/4 column with a 3/16-inch fillet weld, providing a base connection for an upper HSS 4x4x1/4 column. The footing extends 4 feet below the slab, with embedded studs positioned at specific vertical spacings.
