Two structural steel frame columns connect end-to-end via complete joint penetration groove welds on the flanges and webs. A bevel transition per AWS D1.1 accommodates the difference in flange thicknesses, maintaining a standard T dimension with a maximum one-and-a-half-inch transition. Weld access holes conform to AISC Specification Section J1.6 on the web, and weld tabs are removed after welding. Erection plates are provided as required per the column schedule for alignment at the splice location.
