A steel beam connects to a supporting column web using a three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plate with standard holes. The bottom beam flange is cut on the far side to sit flush with the web at the stiffener plate. A quarter-inch fillet weld secures the assembly according to American Institute of Steel Construction criteria. Standard holes are required with no slots allowed, while bolt quantity and size are referenced from the structural schedule.
