A hollow structural section column bears on a base plate atop a concrete foundation with a grout pad, anchored by cast-in-place anchor bolts. A concrete blockout surrounds the column base with a minimum six-inch clearance on all sides below the top of the slab. Number four dowels are spaced at twelve inches on center typically around all four sides of the column and extend down into the footing with a one-foot minimum lap. Continuous slab reinforcement or two number five minimum trim bars are placed around the blockout edge within the surrounding concrete slab.
