A wood beam connects to a structural steel tube column using a one-quarter-inch-thick U-shaped steel plate welded to the column with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld. Two three-quarter-inch diameter machine bolts secure the wood beam web within the U-plate tabs. The bolts are spaced vertically at four-inch intervals with two-inch edge distances, and set five inches out from the column face.
