Concrete shear wall reinforcement at wall thickness changes and wall openings utilizes vertical dowels matching the size and spacing of the reinforcement above, extending down to the level below the slab with hooks at the top of the wall and a number four tie matching the vertical face spacing for offsets greater than six inches. For offsets less than or equal to six inches, dowels similarly match the reinforcement above with hooks at the top of the wall. Wall opening transitions incorporate vertical reinforcement per shear wall elevations, U-bars matching adjacent vertical bar sizes and spacings, and coupling beam extents reinforced per coupling beam details.
