An angle brace connects to the top chord of an open web steel joist at a panel point using a 1-foot long L4x4x1/4 angle and an L4x4x1/4 angle brace where required by plan. A 1/4-inch by 4-inch by 6-inch steel plate is welded to the joist top chord with three-sided 3/16-inch fillet welds. A kicker perpendicular to the joist is welded with a 1/4-inch fillet weld. The assembly is designed to handle a 2,000-pound tension or compression load as indicated on the structural plans.
