A hollow structural section beam frames into a wide flange beam using three-eighth-inch-thick stiffener plates welded to each side of the hollow structural section beam. The hollow structural section beam top flange is coped as required. A one-quarter-inch minimum weld connects the hollow structural section to the stiffener plate. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld connects the stiffener plate to the wide flange beam on three sides. The larger side of the hollow structural section is oriented unless noted otherwise.
