A wide flange beam connects to a hollow structural section column using a three-eighths-inch full-height stiffener plate on both sides secured with an erection bolt. A quarter-inch cap plate is welded to the HSS column. A five-sixteenths-inch full-height stiffener plate is centered on the HSS column. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size are specified on three sides typically.
