A new steel beam frames into the weak-way axis of an existing wide flange column using a bolted shear tab welded to a transfer plate assembly. The connection utilizes existing and new half-inch stiffener plates welded to the column flanges with complete joint penetration welds and demand critical requirements. A slot is cut through the stiffener plate with a seven-sixteenth-inch drilled hole at each end, maintaining a half-inch maximum clearance. The new steel beam is sized per plan and bolted to the connection plate with four structural bolts.
