A hollow structural section column base connection is supported by a two-and-a-half-inch Grade 50 base plate welded over a two-and-a-half-inch embed plate. Three-by-eight-inch drag plates are positioned on each side of the column base plate and secured with five-eighths-inch welds. Typical stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the column flanges and web with half-inch fillet welds. The embed assembly incorporates twelve hollow structural section members measuring eight-and-five-eighths by zero-point-five-inches by fifteen inches, each with one-half-by-nine-and-a-half-by-nine-and-a-half-inch plates and four rows of number six hairpins running each way. Only the embed reinforcing is shown for clarity, requiring coordination with structural plans and elevations for remaining reinforcement.
