Shaded regions designate protected zones along the buckling restrained brace frame where welded, bolted, screwed, or shot-in attachments are strictly prohibited. The structural steel column and steel beam connect to the gusset plate typical at each brace connection. Any other connections to the brace require approval by the engineer of record and the buckling restrained brace manufacturer. The general contractor must design and provide supports as required to avoid these protected zones and coordinate directly with the manufacturer to verify protected zone areas.
