Hollow structural section beams connect to hollow structural section columns and other beams using bolted shear tabs and cap plates. A typical shear plate welded to a cap plate connects the framing beam to the continuous member with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld on four sides. Shear tab bolts and plates secure the connecting beam members with standard clearances.
