A steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column using a web plate that passes through a slot cut in the column. A quarter-inch cap plate is welded to the top of the column with a full depth partial-joint-penetration weld. A web plate extends through the column to accommodate perpendicular beams where required. A typical quarter-inch fillet weld secures the beam web to the connection plate. Bolt requirements for the connection are specified per the beam connection schedule.
