A steel girder frames into a vertical column using a three-quarter inch thick cap plate and three-quarter inch diameter ASTM A307 machine bolts at each end. Three-eighth inch thick stiffener plates are welded beneath the cap plate with five-sixteenth inch fillet welds. A steel beam is omitted for clarity, with a plate and weld per detail 6/SD.4 notched and welded to the beam shear plate. Complete joint penetration welds connect the components at the column centerline, and seven and a half inch vertical dimensions establish the seat elevation.
