A steel beam connects to a structural steel column flange using a welded unreinforced flange-welded web moment connection. The beam flanges weld directly to the column flange with complete joint penetration welds featuring a thirty-degree bevel and specified minimum and maximum clearances. A plate is fastened to the beam web with erection bolts and joined to the members with fillet welds sized at one-quarter and five-sixteenths of an inch. A complete joint penetration weld connects the beam web to the column flange web.
