An existing hollow structural section member connects to an existing steel beam embedded within a concrete shear wall. The connection utilizes a plate welded to the structural section with complete joint penetration welds and a quarter-inch fillet weld. Twenty three-quarter-inch diameter AWS D1.1 Grade B studs with eight-inch embeds anchor the embedded steel beam into the concrete shear wall. The assembly requires shoring the brace prior to the installation of the new connection.
