A concrete slab on metal deck bears on a structural steel beam, which is supported by an HSS4x4x1/4 column with 3/8-inch stiffener plates welded to each side using 3/16-inch fillet welds on three sides. Below this segment, a brace connection utilizes an L4x4x1/4 angle attached to a 1/4-inch by 4-inch by 4-inch plate with a three-quarter-inch diameter machine bolt and 3/16-inch fillet welds. The lower column section consists of an HSS6x6x3/8 continuous member designed for a maximum load of plus or minus 8.50 kips, with splices detailed per sheet S52-03. The vertical distance between the brace connection and the lower member is dimensioned at 1 foot 6 inches, with additional slab edge conditions coordinated per architectural drawings.
