Suspended mechanical unit supported from steel joists beneath a metal roof deck using structural angles and hanging rods. Two L5x3x1/4 angles span between the joists, or Unistrut is used for units weighing less than 300 pounds. L6x4x5/16 by ten-inch long angles are typically welded with three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. Five-and-a-half-inch by three-inch spacer plates one-sixteenth-inch thicker than the hanging rods are placed at the third points. Hanging rods coordinate with the mechanical contractor to support the mechanical unit below.
