An existing concrete slab four and a half inches thick bears on an existing steel wide flange beam, reinforced for shear transfer using a continuous three-eighths-inch steel plate welded to the beam flange. Three-quarter-inch diameter threaded full-base studs are welded to the plate, set in epoxy with a three-and-a-half-inch embedment into the concrete slab, and spaced at twelve inches on center typically. The continuous plate features oversized holes for the threaded studs, and any required splices utilize a full-penetration weld. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure the assembly on three sides typically.
