A wide flange column connects to a supporting transfer girder using a base plate secured by seven-eighths-inch diameter high-strength bolts. One-half-inch thick stiffener plates are welded to each side of the transfer girder web directly under the column flanges using five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds typical. The stiffener plates extend to a depth of d over 2 and feature three-quarter-inch clipped corners at the top flange junction. The base plate is welded to the column base with a three-eighths-inch fillet weld.
