A wide-flange beam connects to a hollow structural section column using a three-quarter-inch column cap plate and a bolted plate assembly. The beam rests on a three-quarter-by-eight-inch plate measuring zero-feet-eight-inches long, secured with four seven-eighth-inch diameter A325-N bolts in standard holes at the usual gauge. A five-eighth-by-eight-inch slotted plate receives the beam web and is welded with quarter-inch and three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. Three-eighths-by-four-inch bent plates are installed on each side after the beam is in place. A composite slab six-and-one-half inches thick is positioned above, with intersecting beams omitted for clarity.
