A hollow structural section cantilever beam supports fuel piping and frames into an HSS column topped with a one-quarter-inch thick cap plate. The cantilevered member consists of an HSS2x2x1/4 section with multiple HSS beams extending off the same column in various directions per the architectural and mechanical plans. A three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld secures the connection. All ends of the hollow structural section members are sealed to prevent water leaks, and the general contractor must verify the required top of steel with the mechanical contractor prior to starting shop drawings.
