A structural steel bracing connection links diagonal braces to a beam and column junction using gusset plates. The work point is located at the center of the column and one-half the actual beam depth. Gusset support plates require a one-half inch minimum thickness for gusset thicknesses under two inches, and a three-quarter inch minimum thickness for gusset thicknesses greater than or equal to two inches. Fillet welds connect the gusset plates, beam, and column assembly with typical sizes noted on the drawing.
