Two structural steel shapes connect end-to-end over a supporting wide flange beam. Two one-half-inch plates secure each side with two seven-eighths-inch diameter high-strength bolts per connection. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld attaches the connection plates, with a typical one-half-inch clearance maintained between members.
