A hollow structural section beam frames into a support beneath a concrete on metal deck floor assembly sized per plan. The top flange of the beam is coped to clear the deck assembly, maintaining a minimum two-inch clearance. Five-sixteenth-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the hollow structural section beam with quarter-inch fillet welds on near side and far side, extending on three sides typically. The connection uses quarter-inch fillet welds around the web and flanges.
