A steel beam frames into a hollow structural section column using a welded shear tab connection. The shear tab is welded to the web of the beam with a fillet weld designated by detail reference A, and bolted to the face of the hollow structural section column using three vertical bolts. A dimensioned gap allows a maximum three-inch clearance between the beam end and the column face.
