A one-half inch thick gusset plate connects a diagonal structural brace to a steel beam with a one-inch clearance maximum. Three-eighths inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web aligned with the centerline of the hanger. The gusset plate is welded to the beam with quarter-inch welds on each side. A note directs attention to detail 14/S6.01 for a similar condition at an HSS beam.
