A wide flange column supports a steel beam framing into its flange with a three-quarter-inch clearance gap maintained at the column centerline. A five-eighths-inch cap plate is welded to the top of the column with a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld. A shear plate is welded to the column flange, and four bolts connect the beam web to the shear plate per the structural schedule on sheet S-600.
