A continuous bent plate of variable thickness is welded to the top flange of a structural steel beam to terminate the metal deck edge. A three-sixteenth-inch fillet weld spaced at twelve inches on center secures the bent plate where overhangs occur, while a three-sixteenth-inch fillet weld spaced at sixteen inches on center is used where flush. The metal deck bears on the steel beam with a one-and-a-half-inch minimum end distance. A thickness selection table specifies bent plate gauges ranging from three-sixteenths to five-sixteenths of an inch based on overhang lengths up to two feet.
