Continuity plates are placed on both sides of the steel column web and sized based on the thickness of the connecting beam flanges. The detail incorporates a cope at the continuity plate leaving a one-half-inch clearance per AISC k-distance requirements. Optional welds are indicated at the web and flange connections.
