A gravity steel column splice is assembled with a splice plate of thickness t secured by bolts, including filler plates as required by flange width transitions. The connection is located five feet above the top of the beam and incorporates vertical slotted holes in the plate. Partial-joint-penetration welds are specified at the column joint. Edge distances and bolt spacings measure two and three inches for W12 and W14 column profiles.
