A divider beam connects to an HSS support post using a pair of 1/2-inch by 4-inch by 1-foot-0-inch steel plates welded to the post with 5/16-inch fillet welds and bolted to the beam. The connection utilizes two 7/8-inch diameter through-bolts installed snug tight with jam nuts and 3-inch square by 1/4-inch plate washers. The splice plates feature American Institute of Steel Construction vertical long-slot holes to allow differential movement, paired with standard size holes in the support post. A 1-inch clearance is maintained between the framing members.
